DESCRIPTION
 
Macaws are large birds with even larger personalitlies and intelligence. They are only recommended for owners with previous experience. Macaws are exceptional pets for many, but it's important to understand these animals personailities and individual needs.
 
Experience Level: Advanced

Expected Size: Around 36" from head to end of tail.

Lifespan: Have an average life expectancy of 50 - 60 years.

Behavior: Macaws will attach to one person and for this are not considered a good family pet. They are extremly intelligent and are even believed to have the cognitive power similar to a human toddler. They will require more attention compared to smaller species of bird. Macaws are able to learn many tricks and have a very large vocabulary. Scarlet macaws are known to "nibble" their owners out of affection. This can be an unwanted trait to some owners, while others do not mind.

Temperament: Macaws are very large birds and require large enclosures with plenty of toys to ensure they are happy and healthy. Mental stimulation with an animal with a high intelligence is very important. Since macaws will bond to one person, they will crave their humans interaction as much as their owner gives. If macaws do not get enough mental stimulation, they may act out in unwanted behaviors.
